This exhibit celebrates the artistry of local photographer Bruce Warren, whose career spans more than five decades. Known today for his mastery of large-format black-and-white photography, Warren works exclusively with 4×5 view cameras and traditional darkroom techniques to create hand-printed silver gelatin photographs. His subjects range from landscapes and architecture to abstract compositions and still life, all unified by a meticulous attention to light, form, and texture. Early in his career, Warren explored color transparencies and experimental techniques with color materials, but many years ago he made a conscious decision to abandon color and work exclusively in black and white. This commitment reflects his lifelong pursuit of “abstracting the familiar,” transforming everyday scenes into striking visual narratives through contrast, pattern, and perspective. While most of this retrospective focuses on his black-and-white work, a selection of early color pieces offers a glimpse into the evolution of his vision. Warren’s images invite viewers to slow down and rediscover the beauty in overlooked details, offering a contemplative experience rooted in craftsmanship and vision. This retrospective provides a rare opportunity to explore the depth and precision of an artist who has shaped the visual arts in the Chippewa Valley for more than five decades. No cost for admission. Artwork will be available for sale.
